Ohio Moves Toward Refueling The Future
Funds Mutual Vanguard If they build it, will anyone fill up? Ohio officials hope they will when Cleveland becomes home to the nation's first public hydrogen-fueling station.

Funds In Investing Mutual The alternative-fuel station is the first of four proposed for Ohio in the next decade. Hydrogen will be used to power fuel cells in the next generation of cars. The hydrogen source for the station in Cleveland will be natural gas, which will arrive at the station through an underground pipe.
Official sponsor to the Fund, Europcar donates a percentage of the revenue earned from each rental toward the Fund.
Fidelity Funds Mutual Only a handful of hydrogen-fueled cars are on the road - none in Ohio.
High Yield Plus Fund Inc. (the Fund) is a diversified, end management investment company. The Fund's primary objective is to provide a high level of current income to shareholders. It seeks to achieve this objective through investment of at least 80% of its investable assets in publicly or privately offered, rated securities of comparable quality. As a secondary investment objective, the Fund will seek capital appreciation, but only when consistent with its primary objective. The Fund has agreements with, among others, Wellington Management Company, LLP (the Investment Adviser) and Prudential Investments LLC (the Administrator). The Investment Adviser makes investment decisions on behalf of the Fund.
Funds Load Mutual No But backers intend to use the project as a learning center to help bridge the public's acceptance in moving from conventional gasoline to fuel cell-driven cars powered by hydrogen, which emits no pollutants.
Funds Investment It's also seen as a move to keep Ohio in the forefront of fuel-cell technology.
Funds Retirement "It's something we need to do," said Jim Davis, who heads AltFuel Solutions of Toledo, which has received initial state funding for the $6.8 million project. "We're doing something positive for the future that will bring it closer to us quicker."
Funds Trust The station will have three fuel pumps for hydrogen and three for compressed natural gas, which is already used to power buses and cars.
Closed End Funds The project fits in with Gov. Bob Taft's $100 million, three-year fuel-cell initiative announced in May and with Ohio's ongoing efforts to promote alternative-fuel vehicles, said Bill Manz, commercial industrial program manager of the Ohio Department of Development's office of Energy Efficiency. The department gave AltFuel $45,000 to plan the project.
Funds Ohio Unclaimed "It seems to have a lot of merit," Manz said. "We're still a number of years off [with fuel cells], but we need to take baby steps, and this is the first baby step. You have to start somewhere, and we may as well start here."
Aim Funds The next round of funding is not secure, Manz said. Davis said he expects to land $5.5 million in state and federal funding. The rest would be made up by corporate sponsors. "This is not a gamble that will lose," he said.
College Free Funds Grant The station won't resemble the 1950s version of the future. Instead it will look like a typical convenience gas station.
Active Funds Index Investor But instead of selling pop, candy and beer, it will have a learning center with a theater and education booths.
Electronic Funds Transfer Other stations are being planned for Cincinnati, Columbus and Toledo.
Ci Funds But hydrogen-fueled cars are still being developed. Honda, for example, announced in July that it will make available 20 to 30 fuel-cell cars over the next two years for use in California and Tokyo. These will be fueled at private pumps.
Funds India Mutual "The first demo is important, and it's good for Ohio," said Tom Zawodzinski, a chemical engineering professor and the Ohio Eminent Scholar for the study of fuel cells at Case Western Reserve University. "But it needs to be followed up. Something that stands alone as hydrogen does not complete the picture. What you need is what it fuels."
