Markets Advance as Fed Hints End to Rate Hikes

Funds Mutual Top (AXcess News) New York - The Dow advanced 10.49 points to 10,857.90, or 0.10%, Wednesday in late morning trading following the Federal Reserve releasing the minutes of its December Policy meeting from yesterday, suggesting that interest rate hikes were near an end.
Feb 2, 2005 (AXcess News) The Fed raised key interest rate a quarter of a point Wednesday which marked the Central Banks sixth rate hike for fed fund rates, bringing bank lending rates to 2.5 percent.The Fed fund rate increase came as no surprise to the market after the Central Bank' makers, led by Alan Greenspan, Chairman.
Funds Market Money The S&P 500 advanced 3.24 points to 1,272.04 while the Nasdaq rose 13.90 points to 2,257.64 by 11:25am EST Wednesday.

Funds In Investing Mutual The Federal Funds rate now stands at 4.25 percent, up from its 1.00 percent mark set in mid-2004. Money pundits have been watching the Federal Open Market Committee (FOMC) closely for any signs of a slow down in rate hikes, indicating an end to its monetary-tightening policy.

Fidelity Funds Mutual Short term treasuries got a boost at the expense of longer term government bonds Tuesday. Today, the 10-year US Treasury note was down 0.01% at 4.36 percent.
Forecasting measured rate increases, the Fed has raised the fed fund rate six consecutive times to 2.5 percent so far with investors expecting it to continue nudging the fed fund rate another quarter point when the Fed's policy panel meets this week.
Funds Load Mutual No FOMC noted that further tightening of the monetary policy would depend on economic data, meaning that if inflation seemed in check the Fed would not raise short-term interest rates.
Funds Investment While FOMC indicated that it may stop raising interest rates, the next meeting of the Monetary board is set for January 31 and a 25 basis point hike in interest rates is likely.
Funds Retirement The minutes of Tuesday's meeting noted that "committee members generally anticipated that policy would likely need to be firmed further going forward."
Funds Trust The next meeting is scheduled for March 31 when Ben Bernanke assumes the post of fed chief. Current Fed chief Alan Greenspan is set to retire the day of the January FOMC meeting.
